Glaciers are key indicators of climate change consequences. In the Mont-Blanc mountain range, the Argentière Glacier will have disappeared before the end of the 21st century (RCP 4.5 scenario) or before 2080 (RCP 8.5 scenario).
According to an article published by three glaciologists in the scientific journal La Météorologie (no. 106), « Starting around the 2040s, the glacier’s terminus will give way to a large pro-glacial lake, which will, within two decades,
reach a volume of approximately 1 million cubic meters. » Four skiers can be seen on the lower part of the glacier, centre of the photo. Argentière Glacier, 2,300 meters above sea level, Mont-Blanc mountain range, March 2021.
